Positive Thinker: Winston Churchill

Sir Winston Churchill

Sir Winston Churchill (1874-1965) served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945 and then again from 1951 to 1955. He is most remembered for leading England during the dark hours of World War II. Yet, Churchill was much more than just a brilliant leader, politician, and statesman. He was also a prolific painter, writer, and historian. In fact, he won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1953. The citation read “for his mastery of historical and biographical description as well as for brilliant oratory in defending exalted human values.”

Not surprisingly, Churchill was also one history’s biggest Positive Thinkers. Below are my seven favorite Winston Churchill quotations on the topic:

  • “Success is going from failure to failure without a loss of enthusiasm.”
  • “The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”
  • “If you are going through hell, keep going.”
  • “For myself I am an optimist – it does not seem to be much use being anything else.”
  • “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.”
  • “Kites rise highest against the wind – not with it.”
  • “Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never-in nothing, great or small, large or petty – never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense.”
